Because of its history of violence, illegal weapons proliferate across the CAR. The long periods of unrest has also resulted in tens of thousands of Central Africans fleeing into neighboring countries.
Between 2008 and 2012, CAR made some progress towards political stability, but that was brought to an end when the Seleka rebel alliance marched south and captured the capital in March 2013, ousting President Francois Bozize. In the months since that coup, the country has descended into ethno-religious violence, with thousands of people fleeing their homes and the UN warning that there was a high risk of genocide.
World Renew is preparing to respond to this crisis. We likely will provide food assistance to 580 people for four months.
