Hurricane Irene slammed into the Eastern Seaboard in August of 2011 and slowly churned her way up the coast leaving behind a wake of destruction. DRS responded with Rapid Response teams to help with the cleanup. Tropical Storm Lee came through a couple of weeks later and dump more rain on already saturated soil. The final result was record flooding coupled with the destruction of numerous communities in New York State as well as several of the New England states.

World Renew Disaster Response Services has sent many Needs Assessment teams to New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina to assist communities in assessing their unmet needs.

In addition, World Renew DRS has two reconstruction sites to assist with repairing and rebuilding homes in the aftermath of the storms. A reconstruction site in Hyde County, North Carolina, ran from January 2012 to April 2014, and a site in Schoharie, New York, was in place from March 2012 to November 2013.

World Renew DRS is sending week-long volunteer groups to Schoharie, New York, on an ongoing basis. To plan a trip for your church, school, or family, visit worldrenew.net/drs to get started.
